Schuyler, Althea G.

Althea G. Schuyler, 91, Oneida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening December 14, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born June 20, 1925 to the late Andrew Sr. and Cecelia (Silas) Parker. On December 18, 1945, she married Lester Schuyler, and he preceded her in death in 1979.
Althea had numerous passions in her life. She loved her house and her yard. She kept it in immaculate condition and took much pride in the upkeep of it. You could find her on most evenings relaxing on her porch admiring her yard and visiting with anyone that stopped by. She had many bird feeders so that she could watch the birds, always keeping the ends of the bread to toss out to them as well. In her younger years she had a large garden that she loved to tend. In Althea’s time she won many awards, one that included Volunteer of the Year. That really summarized her, volunteer of the year, she would help anyone who needed it.
Althea had served as the Treasurer of the Oneida Tribe for 10 years but her true passion was cooking. For 30 plus years she cooked for the Oneida Elders as well as her church. She was a member of the Oneida United Methodist Church. After retirement she still cooked at the church two days a week. If you ever left Althea’s hungry it was your own fault, she would make sure that everyone was fed and most importantly that everyone felt welcome. Although cooking was her passion she also valued her time spent with family. Family to Althea was not just immediate relation, it was the whole community, anyone that crossed her path was sure to find themselves a valued friend and family member.
She is survived by her children; Sharon (Larry) Webster, Shirley “Jeannie” Schuyler, and her foster son, Allen (Arlene) Pamanet. Althea is further survived by her grandchildren; Lee Ann (Gene Thomas) Schuyler, Tammy Hardwick, John Jr. (Margaret) Garsow, Shad (Tanya) Webster, Danielle (Troy) White. Her great grandchildren; Larissa, Aaron, Jourdon, Isaiah, Brannon, Brent, Amber, Tyler, Alexandria, Jacob, and Leigha, and her three great great grandchildren; JaKobi, Jaylee, and Avery. Her siblings; Leatrice Powless and Andrew Parker Jr., as well as her sisters in law; Pearl McLester, Mary (Nick) Metoxen, Eva Danforth, Evelyn Elm, Harriet Reiter, Cleo (Wayne) Cornelius, Juanita Cornelius, Geraldine Parker, and Isabelle Parker.
Althea was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, as well as her siblings; Clifford Cornelius, Mary Ann Cornelius, Russell Parker and Carl Parker, as well as numerous brother and sister in laws.
