Building Self-Sufficiency Before a Crisis Occurs
The Oneida Nation Economic Support Services (ONESS) 477 Program was established to support individuals and families in achieving greater self-sufficiency, stability, and long-term success. While we are often called upon to assist people during difficult times, our goal is not simply to respond to crises. Our goal is to help prevent them.
The most effective services are often provided before a situation becomes an emergency. Whether someone needs assistance with education, training, childcare, transportation, employment preparation, housing stability, or other barriers, we want to work together to address those needs early and develop a plan for success.
This is why the Individual Service Plan (ISP) is so important. The ISP allows participants and Case Managers to identify goals, anticipate challenges, and develop strategies to overcome barriers before they become obstacles to employment, education, or family stability.
As Case Managers, we are not simply processing requests for assistance. We are helping participants build a pathway toward independence and self-sufficiency. Every conversation, referral, service, and follow-up is an opportunity to help someone move closer to their goals.
We encourage participants to stay engaged with their Case Managers, communicate challenges when they arise, and take advantage of available resources before a crisis develops. Together, we can create solutions that strengthen individuals, families, and the community as a whole.
The ONESS 477 Program is about more than providing services. It is about helping people gain the skills, resources, confidence, and opportunities needed to build a stronger future for themselves and their families.
Our goal is simple: Help participants succeed, not just survive. By working proactively and planning ahead, we can help prevent crises, promote self-sufficiency, and support the long-term well-being of the Oneida community.
