Join us for a special event of Pop Club for Oneida Week of the Summer Reading Program as we watch a special program, “The Oneida Speak”.
In numerous journals written in Oneida, the elders recall historical personal accounts of detrimental land-grabbing policies, and the devastating impact of small pox and boarding schools in this hour-long documentary.

An opportunity to hone in on their writing skills, The Ink Spot offers a space for teens to make sense of how their thoughts translate into both academic and personal writing to develop their unique writing style. Using low stakes writing prompts, we’re looking to offer a space for teens to get to know their voice. Not into writing?! No worries, we’re offering a place to sketch and draw too! Light beverages will be provided.

Oneida Film Club: Kanenon:we

Let’s watch Kanenon:we – Original Seeds, a film by Katsitsionni Fox. Kanenon:we – Original Seeds (pronounced Ga nah-seed, ooh we-original) is a short documentary featuring three Indigenous women who are stepping back into their sacred responsibility as seed keepers, honoring the work of our ancestors by regenerating and rematriating sacred seeds for future generations, and offering a glimpse into the challenges facing the world related to food security.

Plaited Basket Class with Liandra Skenandore

Maximum Participants limited to 10. Recommended Age: 10+ (Children under 14 must have an adult present).
Participants will learn the fundamentals of creating a plaited basket while engaging with traditional Haudenosaunee basket-making practices. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to register alongside their child or grandchild.
Please note that each individual must register separately. For example, a parent and child attending together count as two participant spots out of the 10 available.

Black Ash Bracelet Class with Rae Skenandore

Maximum Participants limited to 12. Recommended Age: 10+ (Children under 14 must have an adult present).
This introductory class will guide participants through creating a black ash bracelet while learning about the cultural significance of black ash basketry. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to participate with their child or grandchild. Each participant must register individually.
Yawʌʔkó to First Peoples Fund and the Rooted Pathways grant program for supporting this important work and helping create opportunities for families to learn, create, and reconnect together.
