QUILLWORK WORKSHOP AT THE LIBRARY

Library

We’re excited to share with you the highlights from our recent Quillwork Workshop, hosted here at the Oneida Community Library on March 22nd and 23rd. Led by the talented Paige Skenandore, an Oneida quillwork artist and founder of the indigenous artist collective, Moody NDN, the workshop was an enriching experience for all involved.

On the first day of the workshop, Paige guided us through the intricate process of selecting and preparing quills for our projects. Participants had the unique opportunity to witness firsthand the washing and dyeing of quills right here in the library, allowing us to appreciate the entire creative process from start to finish. Additionally, we had the chance to practice various techniques, setting the stage for the projects to come.

As we delved into day two, each participant embarked on their own creative journey, putting into practice the skills learned the day before. Under Paige’s expert instruction, we explored the wrap technique, resulting in a diverse array of projects ranging from earrings to keychains and bracelets. It was inspiring to see the unique interpretations and personal touches each participant brought to their creations.

We are incredibly grateful to Paige for sharing her expertise and passion with us, despite the initial scheduling challenges. Her dedication to her craft and the broader artistic community is truly commendable, as evidenced by her recent recognition in a Vogue article highlighting her involvement in creating the Oscars look for Lily Gladstone.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our community. The funds for this workshop were made available through donations from individuals like you who value and support the cultural enrichment programs offered by the library. Your ongoing support enables us to continue providing meaningful experiences like the Quillwork Workshop to our community.

Once again, thank you to Paige Skenandore for her invaluable contributions, and thank you to our community for your unwavering support. We look forward to bringing you more enriching experiences in the future.

Paige shares with us: “Moody NDN, has more workshops and community art-related events happening soon! More details can be found on the website: https://moodyndn.com/community-art/. Looking forward to seeing you at a workshop, or event!”
