Oneida Nation Extends Public Health State of Emergency Declaration, issues new Stay Safer at Home Declaration through July 12

Press Releases Pressroom Blog

For Immediate Release: June 10, 2020

(Oneida Reservation) – The Oneida Nation extended the Public Health State of Emergency Declaration and issued a new Stay Safer at Home declaration which loosens restrictions while recognizing the need to retain guidance on measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Both declarations are effective through July 12, 2020.

The Oneida Nation community has contributed greatly to flattening the curve and yet our health professionals advise that COVID-19 continues to threaten the health, safety and welfare of our community.

“We are extending our Public Health State of Emergency for an additional 30 days. We review the statistics and data every day and have seen a brief flattening of the curve, but we want stronger numbers with no cases. We also know our community has been patient and respectful, we need their continued trust and support to keep our community safe. This means we will continue slowly moving towards recovery, but we must not let our guard down,” said Oneida Nation Chairman Tehassi Hill.

We cannot risk lives and the health of our people by opening our community until we can do so with minimal risk.  We encourage everyone to continue to “Stay Safer at Home” and together we will be ready to open our operations with a new normal that reflects a healthier and safer work environment.

Oneida initiated the State of Public Health Emergency on the Oneida Reservation on March 12th and followed with the Safer at Home Declaration.
