Jordan, Doyle J.

Doyle J. Jordan, 95, member of the Oneida Nation, son of the late Benjamin and Amelia (Wheelock) Jordan, died January 10, 2019. He was born January 3, 1924 in Oneida. He married Grace Van Handel on September 25, 1944. Doyle proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1943 – 1944. He farmed and worked at Hockers Brick Yard. In 1964 he sold the farm and continued to work at Hockers for another 22 years. As a bricklayer he joined the Local 3 of Bricklayers. Doyle retired at the age of 62. Doyle belonged… to the Knights of Columbus, Oneida Sportsman Club, and enjoyed arts and crafts, painting, fixing up homes and then selling them. He and Grace enjoyed traveling. Doyle was a good guy.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Grace, His children; Gearld (Shirley), John (Esther), Barbara (Ron Sr.) Skenandore, Joseph (Karen), James (Janice), Glenn (Darlene), Jeffrey (Karen), Larry (April), Carl (Leanne), Chris (Judy), “Fleet” David (Alice), 36 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Doyle is further survived by his sister in law Betty Roche, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; Voilet (Orlando) Vieau, Pricilla (Allan) Manders, Eleanor (David) Jackson, Mervin (Betty) Jordan, Melvin (Trudy) Jordan, Mabel (George) White, Jo (Paul) Oudenhoven, John B. (Marcella) Jordan. Brother-in-law; Jack (Hortense) Van Handel, Sister-in-law; Mildred (Vernon) Lambie, Florence (Marvin) Peotter, Esther (Ervin) Malinski, and Agnes (Norman) Nelson. Doyle was further preceded in death by; Son-in-law; William P. Doyen Sr., Robert Erickson, Daughter-in-law; Charlene Jordan, Delphine Jordan, and grandson Ron Skenandore Jr.

Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida after 4:00PM Monday January 14, 2019. The Oneida Hymn Singers will sing at 6:30PM, followed by a parish prayer service at 7:00PM.

Visitation will continue at church after 9:00AM Tuesday, until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM with Fr. John C. Katamba and Deacon Everett Doxtator officiating. Full military rites will follow mass, with procession then to Immaculate Conception Cemetery for burial. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family.
