Thornberry Creek named Top 50 range

Sports

The Golf Range Association of America (GRAA) has recently named Thornberry Creek at Oneida one of the Top 50 golf driving ranges in the United States. The recognition places the facility on a par with some of the biggest names in golf such as Whistling Straights, Blackwolf Run, TPC Sawgrass, Cog Hill, and Trump National.

“Every year the GRAA comes out with a ranking schedule based on the practice facility, square footage, the number of tees, the grass and other amenities,” Thornberry Creek Chief Operations Officer Josh Doxtator said. “They have different ranking categories based on whether the facility is public, private, or a resort. We were able to gain a Top 50 honor in the public category which is really exceptional for us.”

Recent renovations on Thornberry’s practice ranges drew praise from Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) players who participated in last summer’s much anticipated tour stop at the facility. “I was at an LPGA meeting for the tournament championships in November and spoke with Katherine Kirk (2017 Thornberry Creek Classic LPGA champion) at length,” Doxtator said. “She had nothing but great things to say about Oneida and the ownership and she can’t wait to come back. Danielle Kang missed the tournament here last summer but can’t wait to come up this year because she’s heard nothing but great things about Thornberry. We’ve heard over and over again from many players that this was one of their favorite stops.”

With spectatorship at the 2017 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic being the highest domestically attended LPGA event of last year, the recognition is welcome news. Doxtator is convinced the facility is only going to continue to get better. “We’ve really put our stamp on things and we’re only going to continue to go down that road,” Doxtator said. “Oneida has a great thing going and we’re already working on this coming summer and it will be here before you know it.”
