National Depression Education and Awareness Month

October is recognized as National Depression Education and Awareness month, a time focused on raising awareness, reducing stigma and promoting understanding of mental health challenges. Depression is an increasingly common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Talking about it openly is a great first step.
Help us foster a culture of openness around mental health and empower your friends and family to seek support and share their stories. Show your family and friends that they’re not alone. Take advantage of the resources available to the Oneida community.
OBH’s Weekly Wellness Support Group meets regularly to promote emotional wellness and wholeness in the self. The group is open to all Tribal members over the age of 18, and topics discussed include coping, community support and outreach, emotions and relationships. OBH also offers a Safe Care Pathway for those who are having thoughts of self-harm. Individuals and counselors work together to create personalized safety plans and arrange frequent check-ins and peer support. Our triage counselors are here to help, either by phone or walk-in services. They can help assess your initial needs, schedule intake appointments and connect you with the resources you need. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts and need immediate assistance, please call or text 988 for the 24/7 Suicide & Crisis lifeline. And, this month, more than anything else, we want you to know that you are not alone. Please reach out to a friend, family member or professional to start your path to wholeness of self.
