Introduction of Same-Day Medical Care Improves Patient Outcomes

The introduction of same-day medical care at the Oneida Health Center has increased patients access to care while reducing the need for referrals to urgent care. The service is both improving patient outcomes and lowering healthcare costs.

When patients experience an emergent medical need, their first line of defense is speaking with the OCHD Nursing Team. Trained RNs perform telephone assessments for each patient, guiding them to the best health care option for their situation. Sometimes, that option requires same-day care. Since its introduction, same-day care has enabled patients to receive timely treatment without the need for a costly urgent care or emergency room visit.

Oneida Comprehensive Health Division (OCHD) began offering same-day care last August, when Maggie Hujet, a board-certified Physician Assistant joined the team. With more than 15 years of experience in emergency medicine, Hujet brings an important skill set to the OCHD team. Since last August, she has seen more than 1,065 patients as the sole provider for same-day care.

With same-day care, patients receive improved continuity of care because they’re being treated by a provider within their existing health system, keeping their medical history intact and accessible while also saving money.

OCHD patients with emergent needs can access same-day care by calling (920) 869-2711 to speak with a nurse. Our registered nurses will conduct a brief assessment and guide you to the best medical option for your situation. These services are available on the following dates and times each week:

  • Monday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
