How Recovery Coaches Support Long-Term Success

The path to long-term recovery is taken step-by-step, and having the right support can make all the difference. At Oneida Behavioral Health, we recognize that healing doesn’t consist solely of formal treatment. That’s why we offer recovery coaching, a support service for adults navigating the complex and courageous journey of long-term recovery.

Recovery coaching is a person-centered, strength-based approach that empowers individuals to take ownership of their recovery journey. Recovery coaches are not clinicians, as they don’t diagnose or treat substance use.

Instead, they walk alongside people in recovery as mentors, motivators and advocates, offering nonjudgmental support rooted in experience, compassion and respect. Coaches are in recovery themselves, offering a real-life perspective that allows them to support what is both a deeply personal and individual journey.

Recovery coaches help others identify their goals, values and priorities. Whether it’s securing stable housing, finding employment, rebuilding relationships or working on personal development, a recovery coach helps keep those goals in focus. They assist individuals in:

  • Establishing a purpose-driven recovery plan
  • Meeting basic needs and creating daily structure
  • Identifying and removing obstacles for progress
  • Accessing community resources and support networks
  • Recognizing and building on personal strengths
  • Encouraging hope, confidence and resilience

Recovery coaching can take place in person, via phone or in community settings, making it flexible and accessible for participants in any stage of recovery. This ongoing connection helps bridge the gap between treatment and living your new life.

If you or a loved one is navigating recovery from substance use and could benefit from additional support, recovery coaching can help. Oneida Recovery Nest also hosts several weekly recovery meetings and programs, such as: Wellbriety Recovery Talking Circle, Beading Circle Support, Nar-Anon (for loved ones of addicts), Native AA Meeting and Sobriety Game Nights.
