United States Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra is meeting with the Secretary’s Tribal Advisory Committee (STAC) throughout the week of September 6-9 in Albuquerque, N.M., to discuss tribal issues pertaining to HHS programming. Oneida Nation Councilwoman Jennifer Webster serves as the Bemidji-area delegate on the STAC and is attending the forum as part of the Oneida Business Committee’s (OBC) Broad Goals of Health and Safety.
The STAC serves a number of purposes which include the exchanging of views and information, the providing or seeking of advice and recommendations, finding consensus, and facilitating interactions relating to intergovernmental responsibilities and the administering of HHS programming. This includes all issues that stem explicitly or implicitly from legal statute, regulation, or Executive Order.
Appointed in 2020, Councilwoman Webster is grateful the Oneida Nation has representation on the STAC as the tribe had been petitioning for a seat for many years. “Being here is very important as the brunt of our work is really about reminding our federal partners about the Trust and Treaty responsibilities and securing more resources for our community.”
