👨‍👩‍👧 Support for Families
Family Service WorkersÂ
Every Head Start family is partnered with a dedicated Family Service Worker, whose role is to build strong, trusting relationships and provide meaningful support throughout the school year. FSWs work with families in a holistic, culturally respectful way to foster growth, stability, and confidence. Family Service Workers are a constant source of support, encouragement, and connection. Whether helping with goals, providing referrals, navigating challenges, or celebrating successes, they walk beside families every step of the way, ensuring that every child and family has the tools they need to thrive.
What Family Service Workers Provide
- Family Goal Setting
FSWs help families identify their strengths, needs, and interests to create a personalized Family Partnership Agreement a family‑driven plan that supports growth, stability, and long‑term goals. Families determine how much they want to share and the pace at which goals are set. - Home Visits & Ongoing Family Check‑Ins
FSWs conduct scheduled home visits to better understand the child’s environment, strengthen family–staff relationships, and support parents in creating consistency between home and school. These visits also provide opportunities to share resources, discuss goals, and check on progress in a comfortable, familiar setting. - Prenatal & Early Childhood Support
As part of Head Start and Early Head Start’s holistic approach, FSWs offer guidance, education, and resources that help expectant families work toward healthy prenatal outcomes and prepare for early childhood developmental milestones. - Connections to Community Resources
FSWs assist families in accessing services such as:- housing and financial programs
- food and clothing support
- employment and education services
- mental health and counseling referrals
- domestic violence resources
- health and dental care
- Families receive a Community Resource Guide, and FSWs provide confidential referrals when needed.
