Official Statement from Chairman Tehassi Hill, Oneida Nation

The Oneida Nation stands with our neighbors in Minnesota and we embrace strength through peace, respect and the exercise of our constitutional rights. There are an increasing number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests and demonstrations occurring across the Midwest region. We encourage those who choose to exercise their constitutional rights, to do so in a peaceful and lawful manner, and most importantly stay safe.

We continue to witness incredibly disturbing acts of violence against American citizens by ICE and Border Patrol agents. As the chaos and violence resulting in death and serious injuries increases, we call upon all three branches of the U.S. government to put an end to this madness.

Oneida Nation condemns the violation of civil rights and human rights. As Indigenous people, we have suffered these atrocities intergenerationally. The Oneida Nation encourages peace and unity by acting with a good mind, a good heart and a strong fire to end the actions threatening our democracy.
