Oneida Nation and Cellcom Launch High-Speed Internet Partnership
The Oneida Nation, in partnership with Cellcom, today announced the launch of a new initiative to deliver fast, reliable, and affordable high-speed internet to homes and businesses across the Oneida Nation. This project aims to bridge the digital gap by providing modern connectivity to underserved areas within the community.
The service utilizes Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, which delivers high-speed internet wirelessly from two newly constructed towers, eliminating the need for traditional cable infrastructure. This approach allows for flexible and efficient installation, bringing crucial online access for remote work, education, telehealth, and economic opportunities to residents. The service features unlimited data and requires no long-term contract. The project was funded by Oneida Nation. Cellcom provided engineering support and will operate the new service.
“This partnership is a significant step forward in exercising our sovereignty and fostering the wellbeing of our people,” said Nate Villarreal of the Oneida Nation. “Access to dependable home internet service is essential for our community’s development, from education and health to economic growth. By working with Cellcom, we are building vital infrastructure that will support our families, honor our heritage of self-governance, and secure a stronger future for generations to come.”
The initiative reflects the Oneida Nation’s commitment to self-governance and community development. By enhancing its digital infrastructure, the Nation is empowering its members and supporting the continued growth and prosperity of the community.
This project also demonstrates Cellcom’s commitment to tribal and rural communities they serve. The Cellcom engineering team worked closely with Oneida Nation IT Department to design and deploy the service and other Oneida Nation internal departments to operationalize the new service.
“We are honored to partner with the Oneida Nation on a project that will have such a meaningful impact,” said Brighid Riordan, CEO of Cellcom. “This collaboration is about more than just technology; it’s about strengthening communities and creating new opportunities for every resident. We are committed to ensuring this partnership provides a powerful and positive change for everyday life.”
Testing for the new service is underway is expected to be available for all Nation residents by early December of this year.
