Nori Joyce Damrow, 91, Oneida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018. She was born February 26, 1926 in Oneida, WI a daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Archiquette) House.
Nori believed schooling was very important to her and her family, which she proved by graduating college with an Associate Degree in her 60’s. She was active with Pow Wows where she would have an arts & crafts booth. She loved to teach beadwork to not only all of her family but she even went and taught prisoners in Colorado Springs, CO; when she lived out there for a number of years. Nori would spend around 25 years being instrumental in starting the Oneida Food Distribution Center, growing to a point where a new facility was needed and eventually named after her.
Nori is survived by her son Lloyd (Sharon) Powless; grandson Mark (Eva Martinez) Powless; great grandsons: Alexander Quinton, Mark Lopez, and Esai T. Powless. She is further survived by her siblings: Gordon House, Loretta R. (Stanley) Webster, Carol Artman, and June Marie Cornelius; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Martha Jane Baldovino, Ruth Myra Skenandore, Walter House, Jr, James Wheelock House, and Reginald House; and three nephews: Steven James House, Joe Baldovino, and Lee Domencich.
Family and friends may visit from 3:30 to 6:30 PM on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere. Oneida Hymn Singers at 6:00 PM. Funeral service will follow at 6:30 PM with Deacon Bobby Doxtator officiating. Nori will be laid to rest in the spring in the Oneida Sacred Burial Grounds.
