National Recovery Month

Every September, we recognize National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate the power of recovery, raise awareness of mental health and substance use challenges and support those walking the path toward healing. At Oneida Behavioral Health (OBH), we believe that recovery is not just possible—it deserves to be honored and supported at every stage.

We acknowledge that recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey. It looks different for everyone and does not happen in isolation. Recovery is built on community, access to care and ongoing support. Whether someone is taking the first step toward treatment or has been in recovery for years, our team provides ongoing, individualized, culturally relevant and evidence-based care in an encouraging environment.

What does recovery actually look like? It might look like showing up to a counseling session for the first time or choosing not to drink at a social event. It could be reaching out to a peer support group instead of isolating, developing healthier routines, setting boundaries or working through trauma with a trusted counselor. For many, it includes celebrating small victories, whether that’s 24 hours sober, a day without anxiety symptoms or simply feeling more hopeful about the future.

This National Recovery Month, OBH encourages everyone to start and continue conversations about recovery. Ask a loved one how they are really doing and listen without judgment. Share your own journey if you are in recovery, which could serve as a source of hope for someone else. Normalize talking about therapy, medication or support groups. Together, we can destigmatize using resources that help someone feel whole.
