Oneida Nation Offering Medication Disposal Pouches
Oneida Behavioral Health is launching a new initiative to promote safe disposal of unused or expired prescription medications. Medication disposal pouches offer a simple and convenient way to neutralize both liquid and solid medications, preventing misuse and protecting the environment.
These small pouches contain a liquid, charcoal-based solution that effectively deactivates medications when placed inside, rendering them unusable. The pouches are an additional option to supplement traditional drug take-back programs, allowing community members to dispose of unused medications safely at home.
Medication disposal pouches are currently available at Oneida Behavioral Health. Additional distribution options could be added in the future.
“Medication disposal pouches come with simple instructions and are easy to use. Please consider using them or a permanent drug drop box to safely dispose of your unused or expired prescription medications,” urged Oneida Behavioral Health Director Mari Kriescher. “Keeping unused medications at home or flushing them down the toilet can pose risks, from potential misuse to environmental contamination.”
