Silence the Shame: Empowering Mental Health Conversations Year-Round

For many, mental health can be a tough topic to speak about out loud. Some may avoid conversations about mental health because it will remind them of unresolved trauma. Some may feel uncomfortable with vulnerability. We’re here to remind you that prioritizing your mental health and speaking with others about the challenges you face is not only a show of strength and self-awareness but also one of the first steps towards healing and wholeness.

At Oneida Behavioral Health, we know just how important it is to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. That’s what National Silence the Shame Day on May 5 is all about. This growing movement encourages individuals to seek mental health support and fosters open dialogue to remove shame from the topic.

Although this awareness day occurs in May, also recognized as National Mental Health Month, the message is clear. Mental health is a year-round conversation that needs ongoing attention.

Oneida Behavioral Health offers a variety of services designed to support mental well-being. They include:

  • Individual, Family, Youth and Couples Therapy: Providing a safe space for those dealing with mental health concerns to share their challenges and discuss solutions
  • Triage Counseling: To help determine the urgency of an individual’s situation
  • Substance Use Services: Offering both prevention and treatment services for those struggling with substance use
  • Social Work Services: To help address existing and prevent future challenges for youth, adults and families
  • Weekly Wellness Support Group: A safe space to have conversations about the challenges we face and how to face them with grace and self-understanding

Taking care of your mental health is as important as taking care of your physical health. It improves your overall well-being, reduces stress and enhances your resilience in the face of life’s challenges. This May 5, and every day, please be kind to yourself, know that you’re not alone and speak with a friend or family member about how you’re doing. Let’s silence the shame together and make mental health a priority for everyone.

The Oneida Behavioral Health team is here to help. If you’d like to speak with someone in person, please call (920) 490-3790.
